5th Grade Personal Narratives

October 24th, 2022

Our fifth grade class has been working on writing personal narratives for the past several weeks. After teaching the students what narrative writing is and showing many examples of narratives, Mrs. Lopez worked with the students to master and understand the story arc, making connections to the novel they were reading, Esperanza Rising. Using this knowledge, they created their own story arc as a baseline for their essay. They then engaged in many lessons covering topics such as writing a strong lead and ending, adding transitions and dialogue, and creating stronger sentences using sensory details. As they went through the writing process, they received feedback from their peers as well as Mrs. Lopez until the editing of their final draft. Please enjoy these examples from some of our fifth grade students!
