A Letter From the Administration

Dear West Valley Christian School Families,

Now that the school year has come to a close, I want to take a moment to thank all of you for the collective patience, resilience, and hard work you have all demonstrated over the last three months. None of us will ever forget the challenges we faced as a result of this pandemic and I believe that, as a community, we should feel a sense of pride given our response to this unprecedented time. Even in the midst of difficulty, we have seen God’s faithfulness at work and we are excited to see how He will continue to move in this season.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank you for your participation in the end of the year survey. We had over 75% of our families participate across grades TK-6th and received excellent feedback that will be vital as we plan for the new school year. The survey showed that 82% of our families wish to return to campus, while 18% are interested in at-home learning options. While the next three months will bring more information and hopefully more clarity on the best ways to function safely, I want you to know that we have already begun to plan for our reopening as well as begun working on options for those who feel it best for their child to learn from home.

As guidelines from the CDC and Los Angeles County continue to be updated, we have already started to explore enhanced protocol for the following systems:

·  Sanitization (hand washing, surfaces, rooms, door handles, playground equipment, etc.)

·  Screening (service trucks, parents checking children in and out, etc.)

·  Use of face coverings (faculty, staff, indoor or outdoor)

·  Symptom Identification (how to notify parents if student, faculty or family member tests positive)

·  Distancing (spacing in classroom, hallways, recess, etc.)

While many more ideas are being considered, it is essential to note that we will implement and adjust our systems to meet the changes we will inevitably see over the next three months. We hope you can see our collective and continued commitment to return to campus safely.

Maintaining our six pillars of academic excellence, spiritual development, athletic distinction, technology advancement, creative expression, and servant leadership is important. Coming to a safe and healthy campus is important. Supporting our faculty and staff is important. Giving our kids the full West Valley Christian School experience is our promise.

I want you to know that we are in this together. We will make decisions that are in the best interest of our students, guided by medical professionals, and we will continue to create a campus environment that is safe and ready for the 2020-2021 School Year.

 Sincerely,

Derek Swales

Administrator
