Future Plans

Consider over 150 new families have enrolled over the last four years creating a wonderful blend of new friendships within a small school environment.  Our school has added designated teacher aides to each classroom so that there are two teachers in each classroom.  Next, we have added dynamic fitness program to 3rd-8th grade PE classes, three days per week, so that all girls will recieve instruction in dance and boys will revieve sports training.  We have also added choral and theater arts instruction to all grades TK-5th grade.  We will continur to offer computers, spanish, and art to our enrichment class schedule.

SCHOOL HOURS:  KINDERGARTEN 8:10am-2:55pm;  Middle School 7:55am-2:55pm;  1st-5th grade 8:10am-3:10pm.

The following recent improvements will continue to attract new families:  new teaching strategies to continue to improve writing, language arts and math; increased daily hours to Teacher Aides in classrooms; Individual Academic Support program to identify and improve academic skills gaps;  WASC accreditation granted 6 year term and approved our 6 year Action Plan (read more); adding new educational programs such as IXL, Spelling City, new math curriculum; training teachers in the use of interactive boards; and the addition of qualified teachers and new program staff.  Have you noticed the quality of our program staff who teach robotics, art, music, theater arts, piano, violin, computer, and Spanish?

We appreciate your contributions to make WVCS a special place where God is honored and children are inspired to be their best.

Kindergarten Round Up

We want to invite Pre K and Transitional Kindergarten parents and children to come visit our school. We will create a fun and welcoming atmosphere that will allow you to attend our elementary assembly, join a classroom lesson and meet the administration. To allow you to visit a classroom lesson we need to limit the amount of guests to 4 children each visit. Kindergarten Round Up: To RSVP, please call our office at 818-884-4710 to visit our Kindergarten classroom and student body assembly. We will start our round-ups in Feburary, March, April and May - if we have remaining openings).

How do we determine whether we will add two classes per grade?  We seek to have maximum enrollment of 25 students per classroom.  If we have total of 30+ students we will add another class.   Remember to re-enroll so that you can reserve a spot.

Summer NEWSLETTER

Have you noticed a little a sparkle in the eyes of your faculty and staff?  They are excited about all the new students and the additional educational programs that are coming this year.  We are also curious about which parents will step up and join our efforts in inspiring your children to be the best they can be.  With your help, we are very confident that the following items will be accomplished: gymnasium graphic designs, technology tablets for elementary classrooms, paint/painter for exterior walls, four more security cameras, interior decoration for school office, car window decals, replace building lights, shade structure for car line and playground sports equipment.

Thank you for your consideration as we continue to cast the vision to help WVCS be the best it can be!

To God be the glory.

Sincerely,
Mr. Swales

Special announcement:  Congratulations West Valley Christian School for being granted a six year accreditation term by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

We have not earned a 6 year term for over 12 years!

This is the highest accreditation term offered by WASC. Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, and Pepperdine University are a few names that come to mind when you think about prestigious, highly academic and accomplished universities. Of all the colleges and universities in the Western Region, only 161 have met high standards of quality and effectiveness to become accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States that accredits prestigious colleges and universities named above, as well as junior colleges, and K-12 schools.

Dear West Valley Christian Preschool and School Families,

We want to share with you the findings of the 2015 visiting committee from Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

WASC accreditation certified that West Valley Christian School is a trustworthy institution of learning and validated the integrity of our school's program as it supports student learning.  West Valley Christian School clearly displays strong core beliefs that are shared by all stakeholders: the importance of high academic achievement and the Christian faith. The school provides a safe and nurturing environment for learning that is enjoyed by students, faculty, and staff. The school shows a strong commitment to education beyond the classroom with dedication time and resources for athletics, arts, and service programs. The teachers are clearly dedicated to their students and to the school. The school is further enhanced by a caring support staff. School leadership has helped secure the viability of the school's mission.
Additional areas of strength recognized by WASC:      1. The dedicated members of the faculty love and cherish students to the extent that they are accessible to students and parents, responsive to student needs, and excellent teachers. In addition, many teachers have made a long-term commitment to the school and stayed with the school despite lean economic times. 2. WVCS provides a variety of opportunities to develop student talents such as art, drama, sports, yearbook, and student council and extends, expands, and enhances student learning through numerous field trips and co-curricular activities.  3. The school is committed to improvement through the addition of the Excellence Initiatives, Student Council, ASB, program directors, Acuity and IXL assessments, and surveys.  4. Teachers utilize opportunities for project-based learning across multiple subject areas that excite and engage students. 5. Parents at WVCS support the school with time, money, and a passionate enthusiasm. 6. The school combined a marketing plan with an innovative educational program that has increased enrollment in recent years.  7. School administration has provided visionary leadership for securing the long term viability of WVCS.

WVCS is honored to have received accreditation by WASC.  read more

We are excited to announce that WVCS received our largest donation in our 40 year history. At an upcoming all-school vision meeting, we will recognize the foundation who made the donation and share our Technology Plan and future facility capital campaign. First, we want to inform you about how foundation funds will be used towards our Technology Plan. Please take some time to read the articles and watch the videos that explain the importance of "computer science" in the classroom. Also, this email lists how we can use your help finding best prices for IT equipment/software and how you can help us find an electrician to wire new infrastructure. Why should we teach Computer Science at WVCS? It is not about learning how to use the keyboard and mouse, except for the purpose of moving instruction blocks around to form an algorithm. And it is not just about advocating for safe digital literacy practices, like visiting certain approved websites, unless the website happens to be a coding environment or community where students can share their work. The most important part of the Computer Science experience is its ability to encourage and support creative expression and problem solving. Computer Science is about giving kids the opportunity to engage with powerful ideas. The computer just happens to be our era's best and most accessible tool for this purpose. Coding puzzles, tutorial progressions and unplugged activities (learning computing concepts without a computer) are all onramps to a world where students can be passionate and powerful enough to express their imaginations. Creativity, collaboration, persistence and abstraction are all thinking skills that coding builds. WVCS will provide students and teachers access to computers or tablets in classroom and the library. Technology will be strategically placed throughout campus, so that Computer Science can be accessed from TK through 8th grade in almost all subject areas. RESEARCHING PHASE: During the month of April, our Technology Committee will be researching and piloting the following resources: 1. computers and tablets 2. cross-curricular content for all subjects 3. touch screen white boards 4. professional development support 5. robots to support programming for all ages 6. Virtual Reality goggles 7. E-books for reading TK-5th grade 8. and more... (seeking WVCS student proposals) 2019/2020 SCHEDULING PLANS We will begin to incorporate Computer Science into a variety of daily scheduling formats: Math, Science, Language Arts and History lesson plans can integrate cross curricular content where Computer Science standards can be taught simultaneously. Within existing enrichment schedule students can visit Library / Computer Lab with upgraded computers and new Computer Science software. New scheduled access to Computer Lab based on teacher request. New Middle School students will have optional Computer Science electives and required Computer Science electives. After-school Computer Science clubs can be offered for all ages for several sessions per year. Homeschooling Computer Science classes can be offered from 1-3pm Summer Camp Computer Science classes can be offered this summer as an additional workshop for campers. Summer Camp Computer Science session can be added as an Academic Camp (two weeks @ 3 hours per day). Isn't this exciting! After we finalize our Technology Plan, we look forward to sharing with you the details of how we will integrate Computer Science into your child's Christian education. In the meantime, we thank God for His goodness and will continue to diligently pursue best practices of Computer Science so that WVCS can truly carry the banner of Christian education into the 21 Century and beyond! Shouldn't our WVCS kids learn how to manipulate bits and digitize problems so they add computing processes to their problem-solving toolbox? Why not! And isn't this important enough to start teaching Computer Science from Preschool through 8th grade? We think so! Again, we will be sure to thank the foundation for their generous gift, and we ultimately thank God for this provision, but we also want to be good stewards in the use of these funds and, therefore, seek your input. Here is how you can help: 1. If you have a strategic relationship with educational computer science curriculum or STEM resources... we are seeking the best educational software! 2. If your child has a Computer Science program proposal, please have your child submit idea to Mr. Swales by April 1st. We may have your child serve on our Technology Committee! 3. If you can provide discounted prices towards computers, tablets and IT networking solutions... we are seeking equipment that will best serve our technology plan. 4. If you know an electrician who can help us upgrade school wiring infrastructure... we will need to collect bids for upgrading our bandwidth.

West Valley Christian School offers theater arts in which students rehearse and perform a scripted play. There are two productions per school year for grades K-3 and grades 4-8. Students learn the basics of stagecraft, creativity, acting, singing, choreography and observation skills. Students enjoy the rewards of hard work and learning to work together. Students also benefit from theater with improved self-confidence and public speaking skills. WVCS also offers a theater arts elective where students receive instruction in acting and improv. They write and perform skits for Chapel and School Assemblies. Theater Arts at West Valley is a benefit to students’ overall physical, mental, personal, social and interpersonal skills. According to a UCLA study students involved in the arts tend to have higher academic performance and better standardized test scores. West Valley Christian School students reach out to the community, packing and praying over food boxes for Children's Hunger Fund. West Valley Christian School has been a long time supporter of Children's Hunger Fund. Every year students 1-5 grades visit the CHF Warehouse to pack food packs. At West Valley Christian School, we strive to train our students to model after our Lord Jesus to serve as He served, to raise up godly servant leaders who are aware of the needs of others in their communities and train them for the mission field.
