In Transitional Kindergarten, students receive an important introduction to elementary school while allowing time for hands-on, play-based learning as well. It is an essential year in your child’s growth and development and truly prepares them well for Kindergarten and far beyond.

 

Reading & phonics

Foundational skills in both reading and phonics are mastered so that students can be set-up for literary success. TK students explore many different styles of books and are even introduced to non-fiction text.

Journey Through Language Arts

mATH

The math curriculum focuses on building important number sense to prepare our youngest learners for the rigor of math ahead. TK students build an understanding of numbers and their relationship to one another and explore important concepts such as basic addition and subtraction as well.

 

WRITING

In writing, students gain exposure to proper sentence structure through guided writing activities and work on proper letter formation.

Science is an exciting time of inquiry and TK students enjoy a special unit in the spring on the life cycle of butterflies where they have the unique opportunity to raise their own butterflies from caterpillars and observe their life cycle before releasing them. Throughout this project, they keep a scientific journal to record the entire process.

BIBLE

In Bible, TK students study God’s endless love for them and the world at large through the study of important characters in the Old Testament, the events and the life of Christ, and God’s work through the early church and the Apostle Paul.
