Welcome to West Valley Christian School

Dear Prospective Family,

Choosing the right school for your child is a profound decision that goes beyond academic considerations. At West Valley Christian School (WVCS), we understand the depth of this choice, and, as an educational expert, I recommend delving into three core values crucial for selecting the best school for your child.

1. Character Development Aligned with Individual Gifts:

  • Character development is a cornerstone of our educational philosophy at WVCS.
  • Rooted in Christian principles, we empower students to think critically and shape their values based on their unique gifts.
  • Our distinct approach ensures that our school culture seamlessly aligns with your family values, fostering a nurturing environment for character growth.

2. College Prep Academic Rigor and Teacher Competency:

  • Academic excellence is the heartbeat of our enriched college preparatory program.
  • Rejecting the notion that academic rigor is defined by excessive homework, we focus on higher-order thinking skills, including analyzing, evaluating, and problem-solving.
  • Accredited by WASC for the 2024-2030 term, with the highest scores in our history since 1978, ensuring the highest standards as a top-tier private school.
  • Our competency score, with 17 of 20 categories achieving the highest possible score from WASC, ensures your child is well-prepared for high school, equipped with critical thinking skills shaping a Christian worldview.

3. Like-Minded Culture and Genuine Partnership:

  • A positive school culture is essential for a fruitful educational experience.
  • WVCS cultivates a culture of trust, fostering genuine and authentic conversations where parents are heard, and leadership is clear and consistent.
  • Our commitment to a balanced tone, effective leadership, and strong partnerships with families ensures an environment where students can thrive.
  • Embracing an open-door policy, we welcome strong partnerships with families, addressing questions about school culture, extracurricular activities, and students' post-graduation trajectory.

Our campus tour provides detailed insights into character development, curriculum competency, and our nurturing school culture aligned with family values. Yet, our most valuable asset is our commitment to teaching your child not just how to make a living but how to live. Through our distinct values, students are equipped to navigate life with resilience, kindness, and an unwavering moral compass.

In conclusion, WVCS surpasses conventional Christian educational boundaries, with a faculty dedicated to values-driven education. We invite you to join us on this transformative journey, where your child's Christian education becomes a holistic experience shaping character and fostering a love for learning.

Warm regards,

Derek Swales

Overview

Why West Valley Christian School Is Truly a College Prep School

Before we define what “college prep” really means, consider this:

The Class of 2026 at West Valley Christian School includes five students scoring in the top 2% nationally on the NWEA MAP assessment—with percentile ranks of 99, 99, 98, 97, and 95.

Those are exceptional results. But strong test scores alone don’t define a college preparatory education.

A true college prep experience develops students who can:

  • Think critically
  • Communicate clearly
  • Write effectively
  • Grow in character and purpose

At West Valley Christian School, we believe it must be both academic excellence and whole-person development.

A Commitment to Excellence—for Every Student

Our program is intentionally designed to meet students where they are—and take them further.

We challenge high-achieving students while also supporting and developing every learner. There is no one-size-fits-all model here. Instead, we focus on equipping each student to reach their highest potential through personalized pathways, strong relationships, and purposeful instruction.

Proven Academic Strength

In our most recent accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), West Valley Christian School earned the highest possible rating in 17 out of 20 categories—our strongest performance to date.

Evaluators specifically highlighted our emphasis on critical thinking as a defining strength of our program.

Student Outcomes That Reflect True Readiness

Class of 2026 Performance:

  • Math (Top 5 students average): 98th percentile
  • Reading (Top 5 students average): 93rd percentile

These results demonstrate more than high achievement—they show consistency across disciplines, a key indicator of genuine college readiness.

Our curriculum intentionally integrates:

  • Critical thinking
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Character development
  • Real-world academic experiences

We constantly ask:

  • Are students both challenged and supported?
  • Is critical thinking being taught intentionally?

At WVCS, the answer is yes.

A College Prep Journey That Starts Early

At West Valley Christian School, “college prep” is not just a label—it’s a strategic, multi-year pathway that begins in middle school and prepares students for honors courses, Advanced Placement (AP), and university admission.

1. College-Level Thinking Begins in Middle School

A cornerstone of our program is SpringBoard, a curriculum developed by the College Board.

This is not a traditional English program. It is intentionally designed to:

  • Mirror the rigor and expectations of AP courses
  • Introduce students to college-level texts and writing tasks
  • Develop argumentative writing, literary analysis, and research skills
  • Familiarize students with SAT and AP formats

Even the structure and presentation of assignments reflect what students will encounter later—building both skill and confidence early.

Why this matters:
Students don’t just learn how to write—they learn how to think, analyze, and communicate at a level that prepares them for honors English placement in high school.

2. Intentional Math and English Pathways

Our academic structure ensures students are not simply meeting grade-level expectations—they are advancing beyond them.

Math Pathway (Built for Acceleration):

  • Differentiated math placement begins in middle school
  • Advanced students complete Algebra I by 8th grade
  • This positions them for:
    • Geometry or Algebra II as freshmen
    • AP-level math courses in high school

English Pathway (College-Level Literacy):
 Through SpringBoard, students develop:

  • Analytical reading skills
  • Academic writing proficiency
  • Evidence-based argumentation

These are the exact competencies required for honors and AP English courses.

Proven Results:
 WVCS students consistently place into:

  • Honors English
  • Honors Math
  • Advanced and AP tracks

…in both private and public high schools throughout the region.

3. Aligned with California University Admission Standards

Our program is intentionally aligned with the expectations of both major California university systems:

University of California (UC) System
Students are prepared for schools such as:

  • UCLA
  • UC Davis
  • UC Irvine

These institutions require:

  • Strong academic records
  • Completion of A–G college-prep coursework
  • Success in rigorous, advanced classes

California State University (CSU) System
 Students are also prepared for:

  • CSU Northridge
  • CSU Long Beach
  • San Diego State University

These universities expect:

  • Completion of A–G requirements
  • Demonstrated readiness for college-level academics

What This Means for Your Child

At WVCS, we continually ask one guiding question:

“Is this preparing students for what comes next?”

Because of our intentional design, the answer is yes.

Your child will:

  • Learn through College Board–aligned curriculum
  • Progress through accelerated math pathways
  • Develop advanced writing and analytical thinking skills early
  • Transition successfully into honors and AP courses
  • Be positioned to meet UC and CSU admission expectations

The WVCS Difference

What truly sets West Valley Christian School apart is not just what we teach—but how we teach it.

Our environment is:

  • Relational: Students are known, valued, and supported
  • Balanced: Academic rigor without burnout
  • Faith-centered: Character, purpose, and spiritual growth alongside achievement
